Pantry Needs - Hunger Action Month

A wise person once told me… “If you don’t ask, the answer is always no.”

Between the end of COVID benefits, such as emergency allocations for SNAP, and higher-than-normal cost of living increases, our clients and neighbors need food assistance more than ever.

September is recognized by Feeding America and the Houston Food Bank as Hunger Action Month.

What we see…

  • Monthly pantry visits to WARM are up 51% since before COVID-19.

  • We sign up 5-10 new pantry client families every week.

  • Last year, we distributed over 176,000 pounds of food.

  • We are continually struggling to keep the WARM pantry stocked.

A call to action…

Rural communities are critical in putting food on tables nationwide, yet they are more likely to face hunger. Higher rates of poverty in rural communities make it harder for people to afford food. Our clients continually make difficult choices between costly food and other basic needs. Hunger Action Month allows us to come together to help end food insecurities.

So, here I am ASKING you to get involved.

  • Get involved with your local food pantry or food bank by…

    • Volunteering – give a couple of hours a month or a couple of hours a week. We are always in need of regular volunteers. Volunteer at WARM.

    • Donate – food or monetary donation, both will help the organization. Donate

    • Host a food drive through your church, place of business, or community organization.

    • Hold a fundraiser and utilize social media and other contacts to spread the word to others.

If you are interested in hosting a food drive or holding a fundraiser for WARM, drop us a line, and we will help you get started. Email Us

  • Educate yourself - Currently, Congress is debating the Farm Bill, which renews every five (5) years. One of the primary focuses of the Farm Bill is nutrition funding, which includes TEFAP, SNAP, and Senior Programs. All of which are important to food security within our community.

  • Contact your local representative’s office. Ensure they understand what is important to you regarding the Farm Bill and other legislation.
